The Cheesecake Factory earns its stellar reputation by consistently dishing up quality cuisine in an atmosphere that's more reminscent of a bustling Parisian bistro than a chain with more than 80 clones across the country.

Plonked on the table like the book that it is, the menu boasts more than 200 items, and the food covers all the culinary bases -- from Asian and Latin American, to North African, Southern comfort food and standard Italian. Portions are mammoth, and light eaters should consider sharing a dish or ordering simply an appetizer. Vietnamese shrimp summer rolls, spicy bruschetta and avocado egg rolls make for a contrasting selection of starters. And main courses run the range from steaks, ribs and burgers to various pastas, pad thai, fresh fish tacos and healthy salads that are meals unto themselves (try the endive, pecan and blue cheese salad). In short, there's no excuse for not being able to find something you like here. Even the vegetarian selections are a rainbow of diversity.

Then there's the cheesecake, surely deserving of a paragraph of its own. The namesake menu item comes in more varieties than you can possibly imagine, and while the standard New York version is purist perfection, its worth splashing out on a slice of Dulce de Leche caramel, tiramisu or fresh banana creme cheesecake.
